Volunteer Pet Detectives
Missing Pet Partnership's Lost Pet First Responder Network consists of MAR volunteers willing to offer hands-on assistance should a pet become lost in their own community. These volunteers are able to assist with posting flyers, setting humane traps, and/or conducting shelter checks for pets lost in their community. Volunteers in this program receive 20 hours of instruction through Missing Pet Partnership's MAR First Responder seminar.
Our Lost Pet First Responder seminars are held in conjunction with our MAR Technician courses. The course typically runs 4 hours on a Friday evening, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. The focus of instruction is on lost pet behaviors, search strategies, and the use of high-tech equipment. This is ideal training for those who work at animal shelters, animal welfare organizations, animal disaster workers, rescue group volunteers, and trap-neuter-release volunteers. The Lost Pet First Responder is designed for people who wish to learn more about lost pet behaviors, nonprofit staff or volunteers who wish to offer lost pet services, and those who wish to volunteer to find lost pets in their area. The training does not include training in forensics or search dog training, and there is no certification. To find seminars in your area, visit our Course Schedule page.
HomeAgain® PetRescuers
Recently, an exciting new volunteer opportunity has emerged through HomeAgain®, a prominent microchip company. The HomeAgain PetRescuers program includes a national network of volunteers willing to help recover lost pets in their own community. The program includes lost pet e-mail alerts, access to a pet detective blog (authored by MPP-founder Kat Albrecht), and other program perks. You can learn more about this program and how to volunteer to find lost pets in your community by going to www.homeagain.com.
HomeAgain® Pet Detective Training Modules
Missing Pet Partnership and Founder Kat Albrecht have teamed up with HomeAgain to launch an on-line Pet Detective Training module. Now you can learn more about how lost dogs and lost cats behave and how to effectively search for them. You can evaluate your knowledge by taking a test when you're done!
